We proposed a novel circular 16QAM modulation format for achieving better phase noise tolerance and transmission performance compared to the conventional square 16QAM format. The simulation shows that the phase noise tolerance at 1dB penalty are improved by 1.63 times and 35% maximum transmission reach are gained, respectively.
We proposed a novel blind polarization de-multiplexing technique for higher order modulation signals based on unscented Kalman filter (UKF) in 3D Stokes space. Simulation results show that UKF has better performance of de-multiplexing and convergence speed compared to extended Kalman filters (EKF).
The nonlinear transmission and phase noise tolerance performance of three different 8-ary constellations (8PSK, star-shaped 8QAM and circular 8QAM) in coherent optical communication systems are investigated with the improved Viterbi-Viterbi algorithms for carrier phase estimation and radius-directed linear Kalman filter for polarization de-multiplexing.
Using a Karhunen-Loève series expansion (KLSE) based quasi-analytical method for BER calculation, we investigate performance optimization for 44 Gb/s return-to-zero (RZ) partial DPSK (PDPSK) transceiver with reduced component bandwidth, where the optimization is done by pre-emphasizing the gain shape of electrical signal driving path in the transmitter and varying the free spectral range (FSR) of...
Based on the computed exact probability density functions (PDFs), we analyze the conventional Gaussian approximation (GA) method and the thresholding-based bit error rate (BER) measurement method in back-to-back optical differential phase shift keying (DPSK) systems with balanced detection for the purpose of margin measurement in noise-loading experiments. We show that the GA method fails when used...
