Plasmonic gap waveguides allow for subwavelength integration of optical circuitry. A side effect is extraordinarily high field enhancement. Here we present experimental and numeric results, which indicate nonlinear switching in a directional coupler.
We propose a novel broadcasting scheme for WDM-PON access networks and experimentally demonstrate the downstream transmission performance. Broadcasting data is generated via subcarrier modulation technique and the un-modulated carrier acts as the seeder for FP-LD injection locking direct modulation, which is compatible with current WDM-PON infrastructures. 2.5 Gb/s broadcasting data and 2.5 Gb/s point-to-point...
We experimentally investigate the transmission performance of a carrier-reuse WDM passive optical network, where downstream data is modulated on the optical subcarrier. Two different optical network unit (ONU) structures based on injection locked and directly modulated FP-LDs are studied. The results show that the effect of the residual data carried on the reused optical carrier can be suppressed...
This paper examines the optimum optical and electrical filter bandwidths of the optical MSK receiver. Results show that the MSK signal with low OSNR exhibits narrower optimal optical filter bandwidth compared with RZ-DPSK and RZ-OOK.
We optimise 40 Gbit/s vestigial-side-band return- to-zero (VSB-RZ) signals for transmission through pre-existing (legacy) single-mode fibre (SMF) links, using AWG filters. We show that back-to-back optimization is inadequate, as the optimal filter characteristics vary with transmission distance.
Techniques for generation and detection of optical minimum-shift keying signals are presented. The property of optical MSK and expected performance in high speed optical transmission system are discussed.
