Catalytic adsorption of hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide by aluminium oxides. The stable and unstable adsorption of hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide by an aluminium oxide was studied at a temperature of 220 °C. Assessment of the influence of additives such as sodium ions and sulphate ions was also carried out. The unstable-adsorption quantities of H 2 S and SO 2 were identical, whereas the stable-adsorption quantity of SO 2 was more than that of H 2 S. The introduction of 1% of sodium ions into the aluminium oxide catalyst reduced the adsorption of H 2 S and SO 2 , but did not have any effect on the beginning of activity of the catalyst. The addition of 1% of sulphate ions in the forms of Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 and H 2 SO 4 in the catalyst did not have any effect on either the adsorption of H 2 S and SO 2 or the catalytic activity of the aluminium oxide catalyst. The introduction of 10% of sulphate ions induced a drop in the adsorption of H 2 S and SO 2 and in the catalytic activity of Al 2 O 3 . The sulphurisation of the aluminium oxides catalyst with a sodium additive caused a negligible variation of the stable and unstable adsorption of H 2 S. To cite this article: B.B. Loura et al., C. R.
