The introduction of fibers in SMA mixtures to prevent binder drainage complicates work in the mixing plants and generates additional costs. It is therefore interesting to define techniques in order to dispense with the fiber without taking further risks concerning binder drainage during construction or plastic deformation during road life service. In this research paper, two SMA 11 mixtures designed with the same grading curve but with two different binders were studied. The first binder used was modified with elastomeric polymers SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) and is termed PMB 45/80-65. The second binder was modified with rubber – end of life tyres (ELT’s) and SBS, termed PMB 45/80-65 R.The study results show that both bituminous mixtures SMA11 –PMB 45/80-65 with fibers and PMB 45/80-65 R without fibers-successfully fulfill the water sensitivity tests, binder drainage and resistance to permanent deformation.
