We report the experimental optical absorption spectrum of Li 2 H obtained by two-photon ionization spectroscopy and recorded from 18900 to 28000 cm - 1 . In addition to the B state already measured, a new state, the B state, is observed. Comparison with ab initio calculations allows us to determine the symmetry and equilibrium geometry of these two excited states. The character of the bonds between H and Li atoms in the excited states is discussed.
