Because of the increasing number of Native Americans approaching end stage renal disease, the Indian Health Service (IHS) Kidney Disease Program, and IHS Nutrition and Dietetics Training Program developed a workshop for nutrition professionals who serve IHS, tribal, and urban Indian program patients. The objective is to improve awareness of renal disease in regards to nutrition care. The Pre-End Stage Renal Disease Worksheet, used for case studies, incorporates many of the concepts presented during the 2.5-day workshop. Predicting creatinine clearance and information about the nephrotic syndrome were rated highly useful on follow-up surveys.
