In spite of many exclusive advantages of the switched reluctance motor (SRM), acoustic noise of this motor is high and it is necessary to do more research on the noise reduction which is the main objective of the present paper. The noise reduction procedure proposed here is included three separate parts: (1) stator design parameters optimization, (2) rotor pole design shape optimization and (3) inserting some barriers in stator structure. To calculate the noise of the SRM required for each design, an electromagnetic-structural simulation model is developed with finite element method (FEM) using ANSYS finite element (FE) package. Implementing the three above-mentioned parts for an 8/6 SRM, simulation results are presented and the procedure proposed for noise reduction of the SRM is evaluated.
