The need to maintain instantaneous equilibrium between supply and demand is a major constraint in the electric power system operations. Energy storage has the ability to solve this issue by allowing energy to be stored and released upon demand. Pumped hydro storage is portrayed as a viable resource that is being mostly used for storing energy. It is also considered one of best storage option that harness off-peak energy produced by renewable sources. This paper assesses a similar concept of the existing pumped hydro storage technology, which is gravity storage system. A technical design model of this concept is presented in this work. This design would be first assessed concerning the materials applied to the storage system. Moreover, finite element analysis (FEA) is performed using SolidWorks to study the design performance of this system. Finally, motion simulations would be carried out to investigate the kinematics of the moving piston.
