WDM-PON has become a promising solution to the next-generation access networks, owing to its broad bandwidth and upgradable flexibility. We experimentally demonstrated several WDM-PON architectures with broadcast capability and colorless optical networks units (ONU).
We investigate a novel WDM-PON system by using self-seeded Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (RSOA) both in downstream and upstream. The transmission performance is evaluated and reported for the first time and meets carrier level requirements.
A centrally-controlled self-protected WDM-PON is proposed. It provides downstream 1∶1 and upstream 1+1 protection, respectively. 2.5Gbps bidirectional transmissions under both working and protection modes are demonstrated. The protection switching time is about 2ms.
