Five main aspects show the changes in gynecologic oncology: The identification of the complete human genome sequence and modern analytical methods allow individual counselling on tumor prevention. Data from microchip gene technology must be used with ethical and medical responsibility. Prediction is one of the key players in modern onco-therapeutic concepts to improve response rates and the patient's prognosis and also to reduce treatment costs. New chemo-agents and endocrine therapies have become standards in treatment of gynecologic tumors. Alternative formulations and molecular therapeutics such as immuno- or gene-therapeutics, antiangiogenics, apoptosis inducers and signal transduction modulators are foci of modern oncological research. Microsystem technology has improved diagnostic and operative target specificity. These improvements must be applied economically in an evidence-based rational public health system. This subject will be discussed during the 54th Conference of the German Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Dsseldorf (10th14th September 2002).
