Polymeric insulating materials used for safety-related cables in nuclear power plants are subject to thermal and radiation environment. The durability of such materials has been preserved through environmental qualification, but recently it also becomes necessarily to develop condition monitoring methods for aging management programs in order to adjust to plant life management. Such activities require...
After the Fukushima accident many people have lost the confidence in the save operation of nuclear power plants (NPP). Nevertheless, most of the countries with nuclear power plants under operation or construction, confirmed their plans to develop their nuclear capacity in the future. But without any doubt peaceful use of nuclear energy is a system which needs to be improved. There are three main elements...
In order to maximize the environmental benefits of fusion power generation, it is important to clearly define the parameters governing the back-end of the materials cycle. A fusion-specific approach is necessary. Recycling of materials and clearance (i.e. declassification to non-radioactive material) are the two recommended options for reducing the amount of fusion waste, while the disposal as low-level...
We present the use of swept wavelength interferometry for distributed fiber-optic temperature measurements in a nuclear reactor. The sensors consisted of 2-m segments of commercially available, single mode optical fibers. The interrogation technique is based on measuring the spectral shift of the intrinsic Rayleigh backscatter signal along the optical fiber and converting the spectral shift to temperature.
Deformation of Bi2Te3-based materials was performed. The source disks with nominal compositions of (Bi0.25Sb0.75)2Te3, (Bi0.25Sb0.75)2(Te0.95Se0.05)3 and (Bi0.90Sb0.10)2(Te0.95Se0.05)3 were cut from the ingots grown by the vertical Bridgman method (VBM). The disks were deformed by either cold press (CP) or pressure current heating (PCH). The crystal structures of the deformed materials were identified...
Energy is the bedrock of our daily lives and industry. Now is the time that industry, government and academia must join together and examine highly independent, fully environmentally considerate and rational energy systems. In this presentation, recent Japanese policy will be introduced focusing on new national energy strategy. Looking at future technology trends, it is probable that, in the case...
