The guided modes supported in a coupled two-parallel post-wall waveguides are analyzed by using a coupled-mode theory for coupled two-dimensional photonic crystal wave guides. The coupled-mode equations, which govern the evolution of the modal amplitude of individual post-wall waveguides, are derived in self-contained way on the basis of eigenmode fields of each single waveguide in isolation. Numerical...
This paper presents results of a study of the feasibility of Ka band slot arrays for an interferometric radar for the purpose of topographic mapping of the outer planets such as Jupiter and its moons. A small array is designed, built and tested.
Slotted-waveguide array antennas are attractive because of their low-loss characteristics in high frequencies. Several types of slotted arrays whose polarization angles are inclined to the waveguide axis have been reported. In this paper, we propose a new type of slot array antennas on a rectangular coaxial line for minimizing the waveguide width. As opposed to a conventional waveguide, there is no...
A microstrip antenna array fed by hybrid method, i.e. the coplanar microstrip series-fed linear patch arrays excited by waveguide slots coupling, is presented. The linear patch arrays conform to the surface of a cylinder. A novel dual slot electromagnetic coupling method is presented further to suppress its radiation to achieve good polarization purity. The array achieves perfect characteristics.
We present a perturbation technique for improving the design parameters of a waveguide-fed planar slot array consisting of longitudinal radiating slots and centered-inclined coupling slots. Initial design is performed using the well-known Elliott technique. Subsequently a method-of-moments solution to the pertinent coupled integral equations of the aperture electric field of all slots in the array...
A low-profile, high performance, multi-beam, low-cost multi-layer pillbox antenna has been recently proposed by the authors [1] [2], as a possible solution for high demanding millimeter-wave applications (surveillance systems, automotive radars, telecommunication applications, etc.). In these works a passive electronic system was used for steering the antenna main beam. However, thanks to the low...
Radial line helical array antenna is a novel antenna which realizes the directional radiation of circularly polarized high power microwave. This paper put forward a rectangular radial line helical array antenna (subarray), which uses short helical antenna as its radiation element, each helix is excited by the energy coupled by a probe from a radial line waveguide, especially it can be simply assembled...
This paper presents the radiation characteristics of two-slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical resonator excited by a coupling slot. The magnetic fields inside the sectoral cylindrical resonator for the first few modes are presented with sectoral angle of 60 degrees. It shows that the appropriate mode for a slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical resonator is the...
In this paper, a waveguide-to-microstrip transition is introduced. This end-wall transition employs a double slit configuration in the ground plane of a microstrip line to couple the electromagnetic waves. The purposed transition features lower radiation losses in comparison with existing waveguide-to-microstrip transitions.
