This paper presents a CMOS circuit able to magnify the value of a reference bias current. The magnification factor can be programmed via a 10bit interface in the 1–1024 range. A time domain technique is used to compare a replica of the output current and a replica of the reference current. A negative feedback circuit minimizes the errors up to 1%.
This article proposes a new current-mode(CM)/voltage-mode (VM) 3rd-order quadrature oscillator using three VDCCs, three capacitors and six resistors. The proposed configuration employs only grounded capacitors and provides quadrature current as well as voltage mode outputs. The proposed configuration has been verified by SPICE simulation with TSMC 180nm process parameters.
Two examples and a programming strategy are used to further illustrate the principles of the new estimate method introduced in part I of the paper. In two examples, soft-faults of some elements are simulated, and steady-state node-voltage vectors (SSNVVs) are measured. Then the new estimate method is carried out. Results show the proposed method would effectively improve estimate process of a soft-fault...
The modular multilevel converter (MMC) has become one of the most promising converter technologies for medium/high-power applications, specifically for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. One of the technical challenges associated with the operation and control of the MMC-based system is to precharge the submodule (SM) capacitors to their nominal voltages during the startup process...
The Z-source dc circuit breaker has been introduced as a new circuit for quickly and automatically switching off in response to faults. A modified Z-source breaker design is introduced for the operation at medium-voltage dc with future applications in naval ship power systems. Compared to existing designs, the respective design will allow for greater control of step changes in...
The z-source breaker has been introduced as a new circuit for quickly and automatically switching off in response to faults. A modified z-source breaker design is introduced for operation at medium-voltage dc with future applications in naval ship power systems. Compared to existing designs the respective design will allow for step changes in load. This new design also limits capacitor current in...
A new method for solving the periodic steady state computation of circuits with nonlinear resistors and linear dynamic elements is presented. Any nonlinear resistor is replaced by equivalent sources controlled by its terminal voltages or currents. The convergence of this procedure is assured, unlike the cases of the harmonic balance and shooting methods. Its high convergence speed allows the fast...
This paper presents a warm-up and steady-state control method for a 70 W high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp fed by electronic ballast, in order to replace the still commonly used electromagnetic ballasts and take better advantage of lamp's useful life and luminous efficacy. Along this work, a reliable electronic ballast topology has been chosen, attending the specified requirements. After, the warm-up...
