To evaluate specific absorption rate (SAR) in HF band using reference antenna method, dielectric-coated and shielded loop antenna operated in the liquid can be used. It is found that the electric and magnetic field intensity in the near-field region of the reference antenna behave like corresponding far-field if the near-field gain have a plateau as a function of the distance from the antenna. To...
There is a great need for novel diagnostics and treatment tools in today's healthcare. In this paper we describe our development and progress in novel microwave based diagnostics and treatment applications. The target applications are stroke diagnostics, breast cancer detection and microwave hyperthermia.
Dielectric permittivity maps are created using a previously reported transmission measurement system, as well as a commercially available multi-sensor array. Comparison of the average properties and the property distribution in dielectric slabs and breast models indicate that increased accuracy and information about spatial distribution is obtained with the multi-sensor array.
This paper proposes an introducing a feedback control into the dc-dc PWM boost converter with feedforward control, the integrated control circuit can adjust the duty ratio of the converter following the variation of the input voltage and the output load current to get high power conversion efficiency and stabilize the output voltage. The circuit structure of the voltage-mode is relatively simple and...
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the most common treatment for late stage of osteoarthritis, with high successful rate. However, we still need a comprehensive and continuous rehabilitation monitoring tools to validate in-hospital and in-home rehabilitation process. We proposed a mobile sensors system to objectively measure the flexion/extension...
We introduce a novel microwave imaging system based on compressed sensing(CS), allowing image reconstruction with fewer samples than conventional required. It is found that a sparse scene could be rebuilt under acceptable non-correlated condition. The illumination patterns of regular antennas are non-correlation enough for compressive sensing through frequency diversity. As simulation demonstrated,...
A microwave imaging device is used to catch the image from artificial phantom. This microwave imaging system is developed by Allwave corporation. One of the main techniques is called the field mapping algorithm (FMA). By using FMA, the electric field data of the scanning object can be obtained. After scanning, we use the simple threshold to eliminate unnecessary noise and uninterested signals. Then,...
We introduce a novel Ka-band microwave imaging system operating at 35 GHz. Central to the performance of this system is a direct field inversion algorithm requiring only one minute of processing time per image slice cross section. The imaging system is a single-frequency transmission device, consisting of a stationary single Ka-band transmit horn antenna and a Ka-band open-ended waveguide receive...
Dysphagia is a common complication of strokes, and the patients usually have clinical problems such as malnutrition, significant weight loss, and aspiration pneumonia. Measuring the muscle activity pattern to describe physiology of swallowing behavior by surface electromyography (sEMG) is a simple, non-radioactive, and non-invasive method. Most of previous studies described the swallowing behavior...
Presents the introductory welcome message from the conference proceedings. May include the conference officers' congratulations to all involved with the conference event and publication of the proceedings record.
A study of noncontact vital signal radar adopting the phase shift technique for detecting the target located at the different locations in the detection path is reported. A theoretical analysis for determining the appropriate conversion gain of the radar to detect the vital signal of the target with adopting only two phase states will be described. With choosing the appropriate down-conversion gain...
The microstrip dual-band coupler with coupled-line ring has been provided. Within the proposed couplers, a coupled line with a half/quarter wavelength and two quarter-wavelength Schiffman phase shifters are adopted. The proposed couplers can not only be operated at two flexible frequencies with both 90° phase differences, but also provides the required output power ratio at the designed dual frequencies...
The planar balun with a broad operating band is presented. This balun is composed of a wideband power divider and one 180° phase inverter. In order to obtain a broad operating band, the modified impedance transformer with three stages is adopted. Well-matched results of simulation and measurement can validate the proposed approach.
In this paper, we propose a 915 MHz RF power emitter integrated with a 2×2 patch antenna array and four switchable reflection-type phase shifters with nominal phase delay of −90°, 0°, or +90°. For achieving the object detection function, a centered harmonic antenna at 1830 MHz is also integrated to identify the location of sensor by receiving the harmonic wave reflected from the sensor. In our experiment,...
