Next generation of pixel detectors for the first layers of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) are expected to sustain the particle flow rates up to ∼2 GHz/cm2. The very high radiation levels and small available space makes it impossible to envisage optical conversion on chip, which should be done using electrical links, implying that a significant material...
MPEG is one of the popular standards in image compression. Blocking is the most annoying artifact of encoding/decoding process. In this paper a post-processing deblocking algorithm for MPEG video stream is proposed. This method is based on the correlation of local pixels in block boundary region. It takes two 4×4 adjacent small blocks on both sides of a block boundary as a local processing region...
Systematic isolation of the most relevant data can often greatly reduce data acquisition, transmission, storage and computational requirements while accomplishing interpretation objectives.
The H.264/AVC intra-frame codec is widely used to compress image/video data for applications like Digital Still Camera (DSC), Digital Video Camera (DVC), Television Studio Broadcast, and Surveillance video. Intra-prediction is one of the top 3 compute-intensive processing functions in the H.264/AVC baseline decoder and, therefore, consumes significant number of compute cycles a processor. In this...
We propose a new encoder-friendly image compression strategy for high-throughput cameras and other scenarios of resource-constrained encoders. The encoder performs ℓ∞-constrained predictive coding (DPCM coupled with uniform scalar quantizer), while the decoder solves an inverse problem of ℓ2 restoration of ℓ∞-coded images. Although designed for minimum encoder complexity, the new codec outperforms...
This paper has introduced a new algorithm to deal with the problems of displacement estimation for motion compensation. The simulation results show that the quality of the motion compensated prediction is similar to the one. However, the complexity associated with the calculation of motion estimation is reduced by 97%.
This paper proposes a video compression scheme: four-dimensional vector matrix DCT integer transform (4D-VMICT) codec based on multi-dimensional vector matrix theory. In the scheme we proposes two models for the codec, which can eliminate temporal, spatial and statistical redundancy among the pixels in video sequence by use of the excellent concentration of the 4D-VMICT. Then an e-exponential function...
Summary form only given. In this paper, we propose a deblurring framework based on a factor graph representation of the image and the image formation process. Each pixel is described by a variable node, while the statistical relation among pixels is formulated by two sets of check nodes, describing the local image structures and the image formation process, respectively. Belief propagation is employed...
In this work we present an effective and computationally simple algorithm for image compression based on Hilbert Scanning of Embedded quadTrees (Hi-SET). It allows to represent an image as an embedded bitstream along a fractal function. Embedding is an important feature of modern image compression algorithms, in this way Salomon in [1, pg. 614] cite that another feature and perhaps a unique one is...
Approaches to image compression and indexing based on extensions to 2D of some of the Lempel-Ziv incremental parsing techniques have been proposed in the recent past. In these approaches, an image is decomposed into a number of patches, consisting each of a square or rectangular solid block. This paper proposes image compression techniques based on patches that are not necessarily solid blocks, but...
In this paper, we present a novel mathematical model for lossless video compression using Cartesian co-ordinate system. The model is based on our novel approach of explanation to the working principle of Median Edge Detector(MED). Median Edge Detector predicts value of the unknown pixel, xt, using previously encountered three pixel values . This is done using following prediction model.
Digital compression of images, which is widely used to decrease the energy, time, and memory required for transmission and storage of video information, does not reduce the burden imposed on the analog-to-digital converters (A/Ds) employed for image quantization. Meanwhile this quantization is one of the most challenging problems in the design of large image sensors. Image quantization technique discussed...
The application of distributed coding in many media applications, where low power and low-complexity encoder device is essential, is a new paradigm. In this paper, we propose a new pixel-domain Distributed Video Coding (DVC) scheme, in which both temporal and spatial correlations are exploited at the decoder. The Slepian-Wolf decoder is modified by introducing a source decoder to exploit Wyner-Ziv...
Digital video contents now become easily available through Internet and various medium. Easy availability made digital video more popular than analog media. And it attains a sharp attention regarding its ownership. The ownership integrity can be easily violated using different video editing software. In this regard we are proposing a chip level framework in accordance with our already proposed LSB...
Real-time video compression applications such as Digital Video Camera (DVC), Television Studio Broadcast, and Surveillance video utilize the H.264/AVC video encoder in intra-only encoding mode. The H.264/AVC standard supports multiple intra-prediction modes to reduce spatial redundancy in the video frame. The intra-prediction process for a current pixels block requires the reconstructed pixels from...
In this paper, we present an adaptive sharpening filter for a pre-processing to improve the subjective quality and the performance of H.264/AVC compression. We use quantization step size and pixel variance to select sharpening filter strength. The simulation results show that the proposed pre-processing filtering process improves the subjective quality and reduces bit rate about 0.85%(CIF) and 1.46%(1080p).
In decoded digital video, the local compression artifact level depends on the global compression ratio and the local video content. We describe an algorithm to create estimators of the local ringing and blocking artifact levels from the decoded video signal. Our estimators enable high quality video enhancement in consumer TV.
The paper proposes a novel method to compress color images with imperceptible quality loss. The algorithm explores the difference in error perceptibility of human visual system for various areas. It is done by implementing different non-uniform quantizers for flat, detail and random blocks of pixels. These blocks are classified based on principle component analysis (PCA) and prediction error. For...
In this paper, we propose an analysis of fractional pixels which are interpolated from integer pixels using hierarchical linear FIR filters based on a differential structure of sub-pixels. In order to improve a video quality under a limited bitrate, most of video codecs employs fractional pixels (or samples) in a process of motion compensation or motion estimation. Even though the fractional pixels...
Many existing multi-view video coding techniques remove inter-viewpoint redundancy by applying disparity compensation in conventional video coding frameworks, e.g., H264/MPEG4. However, conventional methodology works ineffectively as they ignore the special features of the inter-view-point disparity. This paper proposes a framework using virtual plane (VP) for multi-view image compression, such that...
